A great deal oft the main thematic material is distributed between the horns in dialogue and antiphonal exchanges, but there are also numerous flourishes for the other players, the clarinets in particular, to enjoy. A very substantial first movement in sonata form is followed by a slower, more lyrical and very attractive second, and a highly effective sonata rondo brings the piece to a close. There is much to admire and savour here. (THE CONSORT, Summer 2013)
